Crane

This is a traditional Japanese origami model of a crane. A crane symbolises both peace, and good luck. It is believed that if you make 1000 paper cranes, then it will give very good luck. There was a young girl who developed leukemia after the bomb in Hiroshima and decided to try to make 1000 cranes in the hope it would save her life. Unfortunately she only managed to make 954 before her death. As a result, there is a statue to her memory which Japanese children travel to decorate with chains of paper cranes.

The model is made from one sheet of origami paper, and the body can be inflated.
